Cars in Germany's City Found Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Police Report

Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.

Officers say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.

The liquid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then located multiple other smeared cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials report preliminary tests indicate the liquid was probably blood from a person.

"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; investigators are presently not aware of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.

Local authorities stated they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the residents for information.

A senior political figure stated the attack left him speechless and had to be addressed rapidly.

"This incident hits the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine people by a shooter aiming at residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
